Just tried to visit joomlacode.org and found that the site is down. This hasn't been the best week for Joomla, has it? First there's a serious security issue, and now it's impossible to download Joomla from the official web server.

Update (11:08 pst): It's back up.

Scheduled maintainence
written by Sam Moffatt , August 17, 2008
It was also announced on the forum: http://forum.joomla.org/viewto...6&t=315680

Downtime is also announced on the JoomlaCode feedback section (http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=406) and the JoomlaCode section on developer.joomla.org (http://developer.joomla.org/joomlacode/).

I figured four days notice for a 1hr downtime was sufficient. Down time is taken periodically to keep our databases running smoothly so that performance doesn't suffer. As we increase in load we're probably going to increase the downtime to a regular schedule as opposed to a month and a half at the moment.

Elin and Sam, thanks for the links and for letting me know that it was scheduled maintenance. That definitely makes me feel better!

If you look at this from a brand new user to Joomla, however, they would go to joomla.org, click Download, and get a server down message. Not too good!

I would have hoped that the download page would have had an announcement, or something on the homepage letting us all know. I'll definitely be checking the developer page more often now!

I must have been blind--the announcement is on the homepage. It wasn't on the download page, though.
